AMAZING SPIDERMAN COLLECTION REPORTS

Amazing Spider-Man beats Avatar at India box-office
as Hindustan Times News report

The Amazing Spider-Man has beaten the opening weekend collection of James Cameron’s Avatar (2009), the biggest Hollywood grosser in India until now. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh says, “The Amazing Spider-Man has collected Rs.29.10 crore nett in the opening weekend itself, beating  AVATAR'S record. It is an outstanding achievement.

He adds, “The film’s collections consistently rose during the weekend, going up steadily from Friday (Rs 8.50 crore) to Saturday (Rs 9.60 crore) and finally making Rs.11 crore on Sunday.” It had opened in 1,236 screens in India in 3D and 2D and was also dubbed in Tamil, Telugu and Hindi. The Avengers recently collected Rs. 15 crore nett in the first weekend while Avatar had an opening-weekend collection of Rs. 16 crore nett.

The film starring Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Bollywood actor Irrfan, saw 80 to 90 per cent occupancy in theatres over the weekend. Irrfan didn’t disappoint fans with his role as Dr Ratha in the movie, which released in India this Friday.

“Irrfan didn’t make a joke of himself like Anil Kapoor did in Mission: Impossible 4. His role was dignified and I felt proud while watching him do it so well, though his accent was a bit weird,” says film buff Varun Verma.
Rumour has it that Irrfan even might be part of the sequel. Studio sources say, “Irrfan might make a comeback in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 as his character is saved by Spiderman in this film.”

Irrfan to star in the Spider-Man sequel? The actor, who met director Marc Webb at the film’s LA premiere recently, refuses to confirm his being part of the sequel.
He says, “Though Marc has discussed a possibility of a sequel, we haven’t signed anything yet. I am under a non-disclosure agreement so I can’t confirm anything now.”
